Does OD green actually work as camouflage?
Yes, within limits. Olive drab was the standard military color for decades precisely because its warm, yellow-green tone melts into temperate forest, brush and rural ground. As a solid color it has no disruptive shapes, so it won’t break up your outline the way a multicolor pattern does, and a sharp eye can pick out the human silhouette at distance. Its strength is the environment: OD green blends best in lush, mid-toned green settings and starts to stand out in autumn, desert or urban terrain. It also reads warmer and brighter than modern ranger green, which was developed to sit flatter and grayer for darker, mixed environments. Treated as a versatile base color rather than true concealment, OD green still earns its keep.
